A part worn tyre is a tyre that has been previously used on another vehicle and cannot be classed as new. Our part worn tyres are supplied from Europe, where tyre laws are slightly different from the UK. Most European countries make you change your tyres with the changing of the seasons i.e. summer to winter etc.
Many motorists change their tyres regularly for newer ones. This results in many tyres being thrown out, whilst only being used for a season and still have plenty of tread on them. Metro Tyres takes advantage of this approach and purchase the old tyres, which are perfectly good and in turn saves our customers money.
Not only is this a economical benefit, but an environmental one, as we recycle many unwanted tyres.
Part worn tyres are very safe, providing they have been correctly pressure tested, quality inspected, and meet the UK law tyre specifications. If you are still unsure, you may request to see the tyre(s) before they are fitted.
You will be asked this question when purchasing tyres from us. You can find you tyres size on the side of your tyres.
Usually, it is a set of 3 numbers e.g. 205/55 R16. Please note, the front and back tyres may be different sizes so don’t always assume all four tyres are the same.
The UK’s legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm. This is over ¾ of the tyre.
Changing to winter tyres is not a law requirement in the UK, but, like many other European countries we advise it due to the change in road conditions.
Winter tyres perform better in colder and wetter conditions, making them and you safer.
Yes, providing your old tyres meet the UK specifications. We would recommend storing them indoors like a shed, or garag to prevent damage from winter conditions.
